parts of speech

The part of speech are the classification of words according to their functions, meaning, and form. The eight parts of speech are the NOUN, PRONOUN, ADJECTIVES,VERBS,ADVERB,PREPOSITION,CONJUNCTION, and INTERRJECTION.


1.NOUNS-A noun is a name of person, place, or thing.
There are kinds of nouns namely:

a.Common noun. a common noun is a name characteristic of all member of a class of persons, places,or things.(e.g. man ,company, city)
b. Proper Noun- A proper noun is the name of a particular person, palce,or thing(e.g. Mr. James, the Glidden Company, Philippines)
c.Special classes of nouns. a concrete noun is a name of an object;that is ,something that can be seen or touch(desk,table).an abstract noun is the name of a quality, conditin or idea(e.g. intelligence ,courtesy,abundance, daarkness).A collective noun is the name of a group (committee, class, company, jury, herd).A COMPUND NOUN is a name consisting of two or more words (International airport, sergeant-at-arms, vice-president)

2.PRONOUNS-A Pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.(he,she,it)
Kinds of Pronouns
a. Personal Pronouns- the personal pronouns are I, WE, YOU, HE, SHE,IT, THEY, and other grammatical form such as MINE, ME,
b. Relative Pronoun- the relative pronouns are who, which, and that. these pronouns not only substitute for nouns, but also link nouns with the rest of the sentence.
Example:
1.Stenographers who work overtime will be paid time and a half.
2.We are sending today the curtains which you recently ordered.
c.Demonstrative Pronoun- The Demonstrative pronouns are this, that, these, and those. They are used to make pointed references to persons, places, or thing.
Example:
1.This is the desk I was talking about.
2. These are not satisfactory.
d. Interrogative Pronouns- The interrogative pronouns are who, which, and what. they are used is asking questions.
Example:1.Who should write the letter?
2. Which of the two models should we take?
e. Indefinite Pronoun- The indefinite pronoun pronouns include one, some, few,all, any, anyone, somebody, none etc. They are characterized in vagueness in thier reference.
f. Reflexive Pronoun- The Reflexive Pronouns are those wors ending in -selves or -self ( Myself, oneself etc,)
